Lillith Eva Hamilton McLain

Lillith Eva Hamilton McLain was born May 20, 1898 on a farm near Winside, Neb. The daughter of James E. Hamilton and Minnie Bertha Long Hamilton, she died on July 14 at Heritage Village Nursing Home in Neligh, Neb.

Lillith was reared and educated in the Winside, Neb., area, and the family of 12 children, consisting of seven boys and five girls, moved to a farm near Royal, Neb., in 1917.

She married George Dewey McLain on April 19, 1919 at O'Neill, Neb. They started farming near Royal, where her husband's family had homesteaded in 1896 and lived there until 1937. They then moved to a farm near Atkinson, Neb., and then to Seattle, Wash., during World War II.

They subsequently returned east and purchased a ranch in 1949 in a settlement south of Lusk known as Royal Valley, where her husband's brothers had homesteaded years before when they had come from Royal, along with many other pioneers from the Royal area.

She lived there until her husband's death in 1975. She then lived alternately with her two sons until 1981, when she moved to the nursing home.

Mrs. McLain will be greatly missed by her family and many friends and those who knew her for her kindness and family devotion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers, three sisters and her husband.

She is survived by two sons, George Donald McLain of Seattle, and Dr. Gordon Glen McLain of Plainview, Neb.; two grandchildren, George Daniel McLain of Seattle, and Shanda Marie McLain of Plainview; one brother, Norris E. Hamilton of Plainview; one sister, Vivian Hamilton of Mesa, Ariz.; two great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Active pallbearers were Martin Glandt, Kenneth Canfield, Charles Canfield, Richard James, Venus Kilmer and Delbert Outhouse. Music was provided by organist Minerva Watson and soloist Mark Lohr, who performed the songs "Abide With Me" and "In the Garden."

Arrangements were handled by Peet Mortuary.
