Mrs. Mary McMurtry Passes Away at Memorial Hospital Sunday; Services Monday; Interment in Lusk Cemetery

Concluding services were held for the late Mrs. Mary McMurtry at 1:30 p.m., Monday, January 4th, from the chapel of the Peet Mortuary. Mrs. McMurtry had been ill several weeks and following a heart attack entered the Memorial hospital, where she passed away early Sunday morning, January 3rd. Her demise was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage.

Rev. Jacob Nein, pastor of the Congregational church, officiated at the services. Members of Lusk Rebekah Lodge No. 12 attended last rites in a group and also gave their ritualistic ceremony.

During the services Mrs. Samuel Thomas and Miss Phyllis Johns sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer." Mrs. J.P. Watson presided at the chapel organ.

Interment was made beside the remains of her late husband, James J. McMurtry, in the family plot in the Lusk Cemetery. Bearing the remains to their last resting place were C.E. Marvin, R.J. Ruda, J.P. Costlow, Don C. Taylor, James D. Hoblit and O.P. Harnagel.

Mary Frances Pickett was born February 23, 1873 at Young America, Indiana, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. C.A. Pickett. At a youthful age, she came west to Broken Bow, Nebr., with her parents in April, 1888.

On December 16, 1891, she was united in marriage with James L. McMurtry, and in 1929 they moved to Lusk, Wyoming where she has since made her home. Her husband preceded her in death, passing away April 27, 1937.

At the age of 13 she was converted into the Methodist church and has kept the faith through her life. She was united with the Congregational Church of Lusk on April 13, 1941.

She is survived by four children, Mrs. Lucy (Peggy) Roberts of Lusk, Wyo.; Mrs. Ruth Minter of Midwest City, Okla.; Cyrus A. McMurtry of Casper, Wyo.; and Claude E. McMurtry of Scottsbluff, Nebr.; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ollie McDermott of Oconto, Nebr.; and one brother, Claude Pickett of Encintas, Calif.

Mary McMurtry Dies in Memorial Hospital Sunday

Mrs. Mary Frances McMurtry, resident of Lusk for the past 24 years, passed away Sunday, Jan. 3 at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital of a cerebral hemorrhage.

Mrs. McMurtry, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. C. Pickett, was born Feb. 23, 1873 at Young America, Indiana. She, with her parents, came to Broken Arrow, Nebr., in April of 1888.

She was united in marriage with James L. McMurtry Dec. 16, 1891. In 1929 she and her husband came to Lusk and she has since made her home here. Mr. McMurtry passed away April 27, 1937 and was laid to rest in the Lusk Cemetery.

At the age of 13 she was converted into the Methodist Church and has kept the faith through her life. She was united with the Congregational Church in Lusk April 13, 1941.

Survivors include four children, Mrs. Lucy (Peggy) Roberts of this city, Mrs. Ruth Minter of Midwest City, Okla., Cyrus A. of Casper, and Claude E of Scottsbluff, Nebr.; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ollie McDermott of Oconto, Nebr., and one brother, Claude Pickett of Encinitas. Calif.

Burial services were held from the Peet Chapel, Monday at 1:30 with the Rev. Jacob Nein officiating. Mrs. Ruth Thomas and Miss Phyllis Johns, accompanied by Mrs. J. P. Watson at the organ, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Beautiful Garden of Prayer."

Bearing the body to its final resting place in the Lusk Cemetery were C.E. Marvin, R. J. Ruda, Mr. J. P. Costlow, Don Taylor, James Hoblit and O. P. Harnagel.
