Melva Aileen Meng

Funeral services for Lusk resident Melva Aileen Meng, 79, were conducted at 2 p.m. March 2 at the Congregational Church in Lusk by Pastor Tom Strock. Interment followed at the Lusk Cemetery.

Following a lengthy illness, Melva died at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper on Feb. 27.

She was born Feb. 19, 1923 at Mills Creek, Okla., the daughter of Homer and Beaulah (Hooks) Barry.

She spent her childhood in the Ardmore, Okla., area and graduated from Berwyn High School in 1940. She graduated from Murray State Jr. College and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University.

During World War II, she worked for Consolidated Air Craft in San Diego, Calif., where she met Jim Meng while he was in the Navy. They were married May 10, 1946 in Ardmore, Okla., and later moved to the family ranch north of Lusk in 1952, where she lived until her death.

She was a member of the Congregational Church of Lusk, Niobrara Cattlewomen, Republican Women and a 4-H leader for 35 years.

Survivors include a son Jim and his wife Deborah, of the family ranch. Three grandchildren, Kresta Leimser of Hutchinson, Kan., Kara Meng of Scottsbluff, Neb., and Ryan Meng of Lusk; a sister Barbara Ross of Ardmore, Okla., a brother Keith Barry of Oklahoma City, Okla., three sister-in-laws, Helen Freeman of Casper, Dorothy Barry of Little Rock, Ark., Joanne Barry of Beverly, Mass., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in September of 1992, three brothers, Herman, Van and Edward and two sisters, Evelyn and Peggy.

Memorials to the Central Wyoming Hospice of Casper or the Niobrara 4-H Memorial Fund would be appreciated.

Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home of Lusk was in charge of arrangements.
