Muriel Ortez

Muriel Ortez, 70, died June 6, 1984 in Dayton, Ohio following a long bout with cancer.

Muriel Elenor Younkin was born to Loyde and Stella Younkin Oct. 27, 1914 in Alliance, Neb. She was the oldest of seven children. The family homesteaded in the Hat Creek area in 1916.

She completed grades one through 10 at the Buena Vista School and finished High School in Lusk graduating in 1933. She continued her education at the University of Wyoming, where she received her teaching degree.

While teaching in Lovell, she met and married Edward Ortez. They were the parents of three daughters, Jeanette Zembok, Marilyn Dement and Donna Brandelik.

They moved to the Dayton, Ohio area, where Muriel worked at The People's Bank. She was a member of the Riverdale Methodist Church for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brothers, Vernon and Ray Younkin.

She is survived by her daughters, five granddaughters and one grandson, her sisters, Ruth Bass, Doris Leeling, Nellie Jones, and Norma Bruegger, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
