Carol Ann Kappheim Chapman

Carol Chapman, a resident of Lusk, died at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Nov. 6.

A cancer that was not discovered until a few hours before she passed caused her unexpected death. Carol was a Certified Nursing Assistant who had almost 20 years of patient care experience. Her specialty was caring for hospice patients near the end of life.

After graduating from high school in Troy, Mich., she became a military wife and lived in Europe for several years. Carol began her nursing career after she came home to Michigan to care for her ailing mother. After her mother's death, Carol moved to Florida and completed her C.N.A. training and began her nursing career.

Carol later moved to Colorado where she continued her career in patient care and married David Chapman Nov. 19, 2000. She moved to Lusk in 2004 to live closer to David's relatives and took a job at the Niobrara Health and Life Center, helping to re-open that small, rural hospital after it had been closed for several years.

Carol's big heart, vibrant personality, cheerful attitude, and her dedication to the well-being of her patients always made a great impression and won Carol many friends in Lusk and everywhere she worked. Her family, friends, patients and co-workers will sorely miss her.

Her husband, David Wesley Chapman, also of Lusk, her daughter, Dawn Lynn Mapp, of Elfers, Fl, and two grandchildren, survive Carol.

Instead of flowers or other gifts, the family suggests a memorial contribution to the Niobrara County Library, P.O. Box 510, Lusk WY 82225.
