Virgil Hansen

Funeral services for Virgil Hansen were held Saturday in Lusk. The BPOE Elks Lodge 1797 will conduct services at the Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home and at the burial in the Lusk Cemetery.

Virgil Herman Hansen died Nov. 8, at Emerald Court in Scottsbluff, Neb. He was born April 7, 1916 in Montpelier, Mont. to Hans and Cecilia (Rasmussen) Hansen. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1934. He married Juanita Lanouette on March 24, 1939 in Newcastle. They made their home in Lusk from 1944 through 1965 where they raised their son and two daughters. Virgil hauled gas for California Liquid Petroleum out of Lusk and then Denver, Colo. from 1965 to 1981.

In 1981, Juanita and Virgil retired and moved back to Lusk from Denver. Virgil was active in the Lusk Senior Center and was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge #1797. Virgil enjoyed sharing a cup of coffee or a cold beer. He enjoyed reading western novels and all kinds of music. Baseball was his favorite sport. He loved Wyoming and especially Lusk. Virgil never wasted anything.

Survivors include son Duane and wife Karen Hansen of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughters Bonnie Germeroth and husband Richard of Dumont, Colo.; and Sally Sylvester and husband Ronald of Scottsbluff, Neb.; six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

His parents, wife Juanita, grandson Ryan Sylvester, sisters Freda MacDonald and Myrtle Carson, and his brother Harold Hansen preceded him in death.

Memorials may be given to the Lusk Senior Center, PO Box 928, Lusk, WY 82225 or the Lusk Elks Lodge #1797, PO Box 897, Lusk, WY 82225. Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
