Benjamin Phillips, Sioux Homesteader, Dies in Chadron

Benjamin O. Phillips was born west of Hay Springs, Neb., to Charles and Mary Etta Farley Phillips on September 24, 1891, and died on January 28, at the age of 81 years.

He lived in the Hay Springs area until his marriage on Dec. 25, 1915, to Alberta Rosalie Rogers. They homesteaded in Sioux County and lived there for a number of years.

Three children were born all of whom survive; Harvey of Holmes Beach, Fla.; Wilson (Bud) of Independence, Mo.; and Georgia Koehnke of Chadron. He is also survived by his wife Alberta, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers, two granddaughters and one grandson.

He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints and the IOOF Lodge.

Funeral services were held February 1, at the Erlewine-Hartman Chapel in Chadron with Elder Dale Strom officiating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
