William K. Powell

William K. Powell, a construction executive in St. Louis, died of cancer Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000 at DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton. He was 59 and lived in Kirkwood, Mo.

Since 1988, Mr. Powell was president, chief operating officer and a board member of Fred Weber, Inc.

A native of Lusk, he attended Chadron State College and the University of Wyoming. He moved to St. Louis in 1966 and worked for the Missouri Highway Department. In 1971 he started at Fred Weber as an operating engineer at the company's Festus location; that same year he was promoted to superintendent of asphalt operations. He was named president and chief operating officer in 1988.

A memorial mass was celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 243 W. Argonne Drive, Kirkwood. The body was cremated.

Among the survivors are his wife, Ruth M. Powell, two sons, Richard Redding of Carlin, N.Y. and William K. Powell II of Stockholm, Sweden; a daughter, Paula Powell Sapienza of Denver; three sisters, Patricia Solick of Omaha, Nebr., Margaret Burnett of Abilene, Texas, and Jacque Boyles of Collinsville, Mo.; a brother, Robert Solick of Leavenworth, Kan.; and two grandchildren.
