Former resident dies in Texas

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Jan. 16 at the First Baptist Church for Louann Goodnight Rankin, 97, who died in a Wellington, Texas nursing home on Jan. 14. The Reverends Pitts and Jenkins officiated at the services. Burial was made in the Rankin family plot at Shamrock, Texas cemetery.

Louann Goodnight was born March 7, 1881 near Mansfield, Texas. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. I. T. Goodnight.

Mrs. Rankin attended the Buck Creek, Texas schools; Goodnight College at Goodnight, Texas; North Texas State University at Denton and the West Texas State University at Canyon, where she earned her life teaching certificate. She taught school for 20 years in Collingsworth County, Tex., before marrying E. L. Rankin at Wellington, Tex., on Sept. 13, 1924. The couple ranched in the Lance Creek area for 17 years before returning to Texas. Mrs. Rankin wrote the Buck Creek Narrows community items for many years, was superintendent of Sunday School and active in community affairs in the Wyoming ranching area. She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Grace Cumming of Wellington, Texas and a brother, Hayden Goodnight of Amarillo, Texas.

The information on Mrs. Rankin was sent by Mrs. Frank (Ruby) Paschal of Quanah, Tex., who also was a former resident of this community.
