Austin Riddle dies; service held in Crawford

Funeral service for Austin J. Riddle, 73, of Lusk, was held at the Methodist Church in Crawford March 5 with the Houston Funeral Home in charge. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery. Mr. Riddle died March 2 at the Chadron Community Hospital.

Austin J. Riddle was born Dec. 8, 1902, to Emery and Minnie Uker Riddle at Kirkland, Ill. At the age of nine he moved with his family to Floyd County, Iowa where they farmed for the next six years, the family then purchased land in Nebraska. They moved from Iowa to Nebraska between Christmas and New Years in 1917.

He and Thelma Thornton were married Sept. 15, 1926, and were the parents of two children. They lived on the same farm in Dawes County until 1959 at which time they moved to Jeffrey City where he was employed in a uranium mill until his health failed in 1966. At that time they returned to Crawford, and in 1971 moved to Lusk.

Mr. Riddle is survived by his widow Thelma; a son James of Lander; a daughter, Mrs. Leo (Joyce) Olsen, North Platte, Neb. and five grandchildren.
