Leslie James Roberts

Services for Leslie James Roberts, a long time Wyoming resident, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 1989, in the Congregational Church in Lusk with Rev. Allen Kallebach officiating. Burial followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mr. Roberts age 74, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 1989, at Northwest Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. He was born on April 29, 1915, in Anselmo, Neb., the son of Rulo G. and Lucy Frances (McMurtry) Roberts. As an infant, he traveled with his parents to Lusk where they homesteaded in the Hat Creek area. He attended school at Hat Creek and graduated from Lusk High School.

He married LaVerne Elizabeth Johns on May 8, 1946, in Chadron, Neb.

Mr. Robert served with the Wyoming National Guard in Lusk and later the U.S. Army with duty in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he returned to Lusk and worked on the family ranch until 1952.

In 1952, he went to work for Wyoming Gas Service in Lusk and then was transferred to Torrington in 1959. He worked in the propane business throughout the West, including Thermopolis, Worland and Cody. He retired in 1960, as office manager of the Petrolane officer manager of the Petrolane Gas Company in Page, Ariz.

Moving back to Wyoming, he served as town treasurer of Medicine Bow for eight years.

Mr. Roberts also served as co-publisher of the Medicine Bow Post until it was donated to the University of Wyoming Journalism Department in January of 1989.

In 1988 he and his wife moved to Torrington for full retirement, and spent the winter months in Tucson, Ariz. He was an active church member and served in various positions for churches where the family resided.

He was a member of the VFW of Wyoming, the American Legion William Horne Post #64 of Medicine Bow, the Friends of the Medicine Bow Museum and the Wyoming Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Survivors include his wife LaVerne of Torrington; 3 sons, Steven Leslie Roberts of Tucson, Ariz.; Phillip John Roberts of Seattle, Wash.; and David Lowell Roberts of Laramie, Wyo.; one sister, Mary Hoblit of Lusk, and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial to the Congregational Church of Lusk or to the First Presbyterian Church of Torrington, will be appreciated by the family.
