Wyoming Pioneer buried

Mrs. Mamie D. Root, Wyoming pioneer, died Feb. 26 at Seal Beach, Calif. after a brief illness.

She was born in Loveland, Colo., Feb. 2, 1885. At the age of 9 she came to Wyoming with her family in a covered wagon. She and Arthur H. Root were married March 30, 1904. They resided at the Red Hanson Ranch near the famous Node Ranch, and homesteaded south of Lusk in the Royal Valley community for six years until they moved to Lusk.

She maintained her home in Lusk for 83 years, but for the past nine years has spent the winter months with her daughters, Evelyn Stark and Avis Stone in California.

Survivors include her two daughters; brother Frank Rider, 94, of Lewistown, Mont.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Fred Keith and Lyle Delmar and a daughter Sarah M.

Funeral service was held in the Peet Mortuary Chapel March 5 at 2:00 with the Rev. Frank Blish officiating.

Organist Mrs. Edna DeCastro accompanied Mark Lohr as he sang "The Old Rugged Cross."

Honorary bearers were H. W. Hansen, Ab DeCastro, Floyd Duel, William Miller, C. E. Marvin, Levern James, Tom McCullough, Harry Austin, Andrew McMaster, Roger Percival, Vic Centers, Roy Chamberlain, Roy Turnbull, Fred Hansen, Lafe Culver, Don Taylor, Menno Kaan, Nick Kaan, Henry Stiles, G. L. Pfeifer and J. P. Watson.

Casket bearers were Robert Templeton, Otto Krekeler, Harold Rogers, Richard Kant, Ted Lohr and Paul Percival. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Mamie Root funeral Sat.

Mamie Root, former Lusk resident, died at 4;30 Feb. 26 at Seal Beach, Calif., where she was living with her daughter Evelyn Stark. A service was held at Seal Beach Monday, and another service will be held here at the Peet Mortuary Saturday, March 5, at 2:00 p.m.

Married, at the home of the bride's parents in Lusk yesterday, March
30, 1904, Mr. Arthur Root and Miss Mamie Rider, Rev. Cleveland
officiating. After the ceremony a sumptuous dinner was served, to
which a few invited guests sat down to the table and partook of the
many good things served for the occasion. The contracting parties are
well and favorably known, having lived here ever since they were mere
children. The happy young couple have a host of admiring friends with
whom the HERALD joins in wishing then a prosperous and happy journey
through life.
