Carrie Ruda, 79, Dies in Lusk Last Wednesday

Funeral service was held Friday at the Peet Chapel at 2:00 p.m. for Mrs. Carrie E. Ruda, 79, who died last Wednesday, July 5, in Lusk.

The Rev. Fred Bolinger conducted the service. Organist was Mrs. J. P. Watson who accompanied the singers Mrs. Alex Miller and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro as they sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Going Down the Valley."

Casket bearers were Martin Glandt, Gilbert Hughes, Edward Hughes, Elmer Johnson, Sam Rennard and Abel Santillanes. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.

Carrie E. Hughes, daughter of William and Christina Hughes, was born August 10, 1894, at Randolph, Neb. She homesteaded at Flattop in 1917. Later she was chief operator for the telephone company at Randolph.

February 2, 1925 she married Robert Ruda and they lived at Lynch, Neb., until 1929 when they moved to Flattop. They also lived on a ranch five miles south of Lusk and in 1949 purchased the apartment house in Lusk which was her home until a few years ago.

Her husband, parents, one brother and four sisters died previously.

She is survived by one daughter, Marjorie of Guernsey; one sister, Zelma of Miami; three brothers, Cliff of Randolph, Neb., Pete of Bloomfield, Neb., and Jack of O'Neill, Neb. She is also survived by four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
