Jerry E. Scott

Services for Jerry E. Scott, 52, were March 17, 1997, at the Niobrara County High School Auditorium with the Rev. Mark Lohr officiating. Burial followed at the Lusk Cemetery. Memorials are to the Niobrara Historical Society or the Lusk-Niobrara Ambulance Service.

He died March 13, 1997, due to injuries sustained in a work-related accident. He was born March 2, 1945, in Denver to Charley and Mildred (Kuskie) Scott.

He was raised in Lusk and spent a lot of time in the Hat Creek area with his uncle and aunt, Speck and Mabel Black. He was a 1964 graduate of Niobrara County High School.

After graduation, he moved to Sidney, Neb., where he attended college and was involved in the rodeo club. After college, he went to work for Gilpatrick Construction. He later worked for Brasel and Sims Construction.

He married Vickie Lynn Bartow Oct. 23, 1970, in Torrington.

They lived in several areas including Lander, Riverton and Ten Sleep.

They then returned to Lusk and started their family. Kristi Lynn was born June 8, 1971, and Roni Annette was born July 2, 1974. The girls were his pride and joy.

He was employed by the Lusk Motor Co. and Vollmer Machine Shop. In 1978, he began working for the Niobrara Electric Association, where he was employed at the time of his death.

He was extremely active in the community. He was a member of the Niobrara Historical Society board of directors, the Niobrara County Fair Board, the Fort Laramie Historical Society, and was president of the Legend of Rawhide Pageant committee. He was a member of the local chamber of commerce, and in 1995, he received the Citizen of the Year award. He was also an organizer of the revised Pony Express rides. His heart and soul were in the Lusk Stagecoach Museum and the community of Niobrara County.

Survivors include his wife; daughters Kristi and Roni, both of Lafayette, Colo.; granddaughter Arika Scott, also of Lafayette; sister Jan Scott of Lusk; numerous nephews and nieces; and many other relatives and friends.

Bader Funeral Home of Lusk was in charge of arrangements.
