George Backhaus Dies Suddenly

George William Backhaus, 42, of North Star Route, Torrington, died suddenly at his home Monday morning, March 4.

He was born on a ranch near Torrington on September 23, 1925. He married Wanda Lorraine Elkins at Torrington on August 10, 1956. He was a life long resident of the Torrington area.

Survivors include his widow; his mother, Mrs. Nora Backhaus of Torrington; one sister Emma Belle Baumgardner of Paul, Idaho; a half-sister Mrs. Irene Phipps of Harrison; and a nephew, Kenneth Stimson, of Scottsbluff.

Funeral services were held Thursday at 2:99 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Torrington. The Rev. Howard B. Osborne officiated. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery at Torrington.

Those from Harrison who were in Torrington for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Jim Phipps, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Phipps and son, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Grote.
