Services for James C. Shane, 90, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 1992, in the Bader-Peet Mortuary Chapel in Lusk with Rev. Delbert Dick officiating. Burial followed in the Lusk Cemetery.

Shane died Thursday evening, Nov. 12, 1992, at the Niobrara County Nursing Home in Lusk. He was born June 1, 1902, at Fairbury, Neb., the son of George W. and Allie E. (Mitchell) Shane.

He married Irene Buckmeir at Beatrice, Neb., on Feb. 15, 1928. Jim and Irene were farmers in the Fairbury, Neb., and Onaga, Kan., areas until they moved to Wyoming in 1935. They worked for the Herbert Sabin ranch at Node, Wyo. They later bought the Ed Thompson ranch near Node where they lived until 1957 when they turned the ranch over to their son Jimmy and moved in to Lusk. They raised registered poll Hereford cattle for many years.

He was active for many years as a 4-H leader, the Farm Bureau and was an avid fan of Lusk High School sports. He also drove school bus routes for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother and one grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Irene, of Lusk; one son, Jimmy Shane of the family ranch near Node; two daughters, Bonnie DesEnfants of Torrington and Patty Showalter of Douglas; one sister, Lela Rohrbaugh of Fairbury, Neb.; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were five grandsons and one great-grandson and vocalist for the service was a granddaughter.

For those who wish, memorials to the Niobrara County Nursing Home or to the Lusk Senior Center will be appreciated by the family.

Bader-Peet Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
