Child Dies En Route to Lusk Hospital
Four-year old Candice Sue Shelley died en route to the Niobrara County Hospital Tuesday, afternoon from injuries received when she was run over by the back wheel of a truck.
Candice was riding in the cab of a truck driven by her father, Mick Shelley, foreman of the Andrews Cattle Co. ranch seven miles north of Jay Em. Goshen County Sheriff Ron Price said she apparently fell from the cab into the path of the truck.
The accident occurred between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m. Mrs. Shelley was en route to Lusk with the child when she died. An autopsy is being performed in Casper Wednesday.
Three older children are enrolled in the Lusk school, and two younger ones are still at home.
Highway Patrolman Duane Verley went to the ranch for Mr. Shelley and the smaller children, and later that afternoon he and Gene Perry drove the family back to the ranch. They radioed the Goshen County Sheriff and the coroner.
