Lance Creek I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 13 Conducts Rites for the Late Jerry Shrove; Burial in Lusk Cemetery

Concluding rites were held at two o'clock Monday afternoon for the late Jerry Shrove from the chapel of the Peet Funeral Home with Rev. Reid Lunsford of the Baptist Church of Lance Creek, officiating. During the services Miss Neoma Taylor, Mrs. Robert Bramlet and Dr. R. L. Collins sang "Nearer My God to Thee," and "Rock of Ages," with Mrs. Judson P. Watson presiding at the organ.

At the chapel members of the Lance Creek I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 13 gave their ritualistic ceremony with M. B. Evans and Stan Gillespie in charge. Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery with Guy Mosier, Kenneth Hawkins, Clarence Boston, Charles Lee and Gus Perlenfein, all members of the Lance Creek lodge and Amend Thurston, member of the Lusk Odd Fellow Lodge, serving as pallbearers.

Jerry Shrove was born January 19, 1868 at Marquette, Nebraska a son of John and Julia Ann (Yahn) Shrove and passed away July 15, 1955 at the Manring Convalescent home at the age of 87 years, five months and 26 days.

He came to Wyoming in 1916 and homesteaded near Van Tassell, later moving to Lusk where for many years he was employed at various occupations. More recently he has resided at Lance Creek. He was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge joining that order in 1901 in Loup City, Nebr., then transferred to Excellsior Lodge No. 166, and then to Custer Lodge No. 21 of Lusk. From there he transferred to Lance Creek Lodge No. 13 of Lance Creek.

Survivors include two sons, Joe of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Earl in Lakeland, Florida, three brothers, Henry Shrove, Seattle, Wash., Orville, and Walt Shrove, Sioux City, Iowa; and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Wilson, Aurora, Nebr., Mrs. Sarah of Edmonton, Canada and Mrs. Louella Jung of Arzana, Calif., and a former wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Shrove of Grand Island, Neb.

Funeral Services for Jerry Shrove Held Sun.

Funeral services for Jerry Shrove (were) held in Lusk Monday. Jerry has been very active in the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 13. He made many friends here in this community. Those attending the services from the field were: Mr. Lester Meade, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Perlenfein, Mr. and Mrs. Cap Evans, Mrs. Minnie Mosier, Mrs. Helen Strube, Mr. Charles Lee and Margaret, Clarence Boston, Guy Mosier, Kenneth Hawkins, Stanley Gillespie, Ray Austin, Bill Ellis and C. C. Gillespie.

Jerry Shrove Dies In Lusk July 14

Jerry shrove, 85, a long-time resident of Niobrara and northern Goshen county, died of apoplexy Thursday, July 14 at the Manring convalescent Home.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Peet chapel. Rev. Reid Lunsford, pastor of First Baptist church of Lance Creek, officiated. Mrs. Robert Bramlet, Miss Neoma Taylor and Dr. r. W. Collins sang "Rock of Ages: and "Nearer My God to Thee:, accompanied by MMrs. J.P. Watson, organist. A memorial service was conducted at the chapel by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 13.

Casket-bearers were Guy Mosier, Kenneth Hawkins, amend Thurston, Clarence Boston, Charles Lee and Gus Perlenfein. Interment was in the Lusk Cemetery with the Peet Mortuary in charge.

Jerry Shrove was born Jan. 19, 1870 at Dutch Hollow near Freeport, Ill., the son of John and Julia ann Yahn Shrove. After moving to Aurora, Ill., in 1886 he married Harriet Gaskel of Lup City. The couple had one son, Joseph, now living in Cheyenne.

They moved to Wy9oming in 1912 and Mr. Shrove homesteaded in 1913 in northern Goshen county near the present Prairie Center schoolhouse. After proving up there he sold out and has lived in Niobrara County ever since. He at one time owned a ranch near Van Tassell but sold it and moved to Lusk. Lately he has been living along in lance Creek.

Ill health compelled him to move to Lusk last winter and he stayed for a while with Mr. and mrs. Charles McGinnis. In Februrary he was confined to the Niobrara Memorial Hospital for a time and from then until June he alternated between his home in Lance Creek and teh hsopital. June 4 he came to the Manring Home where he stayed until his death.

He is survived by one son, Joseph of Cheyenne.
