Memorial Service For Mary Slater Who Died Fri.

A Memorial Service was held Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at the Peet Chapel for Mary Slater who died September 16 at the Niobrara Memorial Hospital.

The body was taken for burial in the family plot to Stanton, Neb.; where a graveside service was held September 18. Mr. and Mrs. Judson Watson, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fernau, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Doctor accompanied the body to Stanton.

Mary Eberly Slater was born March 6, 1885, at Stanton, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Slater and Ada Minerva Slater. She moved to Lusk in about 1914 when her parents moved here. John Slater purchased the Lusk Free Lance about 1920 and operated it until he sold it to Arthur Vogel.

Mary worked for her father at the newspaper as a typesetter. She had two sisters, Agnes Crowell and Lena Miller who both died previously.

In ill health for a number of years, Mary was confined to the Niobrara County Hospital for the last eight years, first in the old location and then as the first patient admitted to the new Niobrara County Hospital.

She is survived by five nieces and nephews, John H. Crowell, Renton, Wash., Edwin F. Crowell, Everett, Wash., Ada Wosmun, Nevada City, Calif., Robert J. Miller, Susanville, Calif., and Edward R. Miller, Sacramento, Calif.
