Former resident dies in accident

A one-vehicle accident south of Manville Thursday, Jan.3 claimed the life of Charles V. Sommers of Wheatland.

According to the Highway Patrol, Sommers was northbound on Highway 270 when he went off the right side of the road. He then over-corrected, lost control, slid across the road and hit a guardrail. The tractor and trailer he was driving separated, and the tractor flipped onto its top, pinning the driver underneath. The trailer went onto its side, blocking the entire highway.

Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 8 in Wheatland. A complete obituary will follow in next week's paper.

Services for Charles Victor Sommers, 49, who died near Lusk Jan. 3, were held in the Assembly of God Church in Wheatland on Jan. 8, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Robert Little officiating.

A semi-truck accident caused his death.

Born in Wheatland on Dec. 25, 1935, the son of Halleck and Wilma Wright Sommers, he was reared and educated in Platte County, graduating from Wheatland High School in 1954.

He worked for 15 years for Mountain Bell, and at the time of his death was employed by Salt Creek Freightways.

He and Judy Skaarer were united in marriage Dec. 23, 1982. They made their home in Wheatland.

Besides his wife, Judy, he is survived by his parents, three sons: Ronald Lund of Lusk; Roger Lund of Rock Springs and Charles W. Sommers of Lusk.; daughters; Laurie A. Allshouse of Casper, Stephanie A. Sommers of Douglas; a brother George Sommers of Worland, a sister Joann of Encampment and three grandchildren, Brandon Allshouse, Caleb M. Lund and Dana Sommers.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Valley View Manor Nursing Home in Saratoga.

Memorials for a headstone may be made to the First National Bank in Wheatland.

Burial was in the Hartville Cemetery.
