Evelyn C. Stearns

Mass of the Christian Burial for Evelyn C. Stearns, 92, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. April 15 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. April 14 at Worden Chapel. Cremation will follow services and private burial of the cremains will be at a later date. The family prefers memorial contributions sent to Friends of Fair in Newcastle.

Mrs. Stearns died at her rural Newcastle home April 8 of natural causes.

Evelyn was born June 10, 1912 at Swan Lake, Neb., the daughter of Charles and Caroling (Rothleutner) Dailey. She attended Casper Normal College, graduating with a teaching certificate, teaching in Converse, Niobrara and Weston County rural schools. She also worked as file lookout and assistant postmistress at Dewey, S.D., and ranched with her husband. On July 2, 1939, she married William W. Stearns in Douglas, Wyo. She loved her animals and gardening. Evelyn also enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was a member of Sagebrush Pals for more then 50 year and Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Surviving her are her husband of Dewey, S.D.; sons, William A. Stearns of Newcastle and Joe Stearns of Big Timber, S.D.; and daughter, Carol McInerney of Spearfish, S.D.; grandchildren Lea (Craig) Stodart and children Cole, Tyler and Glenn of Dewey, S.D.; Michael (Lisa) McInerney and children Bailey and Taylor of Gillette; Paula (Dave) and son Dalton Hall of Lead, S.D.; Shelly (Brian) Anderson of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and Cody (Rachel) Stearns and children McKenzie and Andrew of Tenn.
