Graveside funeral services for William H. "Bill" Thompson, 84, of Fort Laramie, were held Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1993, at the Fort Laramie Cemetery with the Rev. James Hovland officiating.

Masonic services were also conducted at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fort Laramie Search and Rescue Unit or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children in Salt Lake City, Utah, would be appreciated by the family. Mr. Thompson died Saturday, Sept. 4, 1993, at his home in Fort Laramie.

He was born Dec. 12, 1908, at Leafdale, Neb., the son of Grover and Lena (Nietfeld) Thompson. The family moved to Glendo, Wyo., in 1913 and ranched on Horseshoe Creek.

He attended schools in Glendo, Grand Island, Neb., and the University of Wyoming. Returning to Glendo, Thompson taught school for a time at the local school. Mr. Thompson was involved in ranching throughout his life.

On July 15, 1970, he married Georgia Haynes at Douglas, Wyo.

He was a member of the Harmony Lodge #24 A.F. and A.M. at Lusk, the York Rite, Royal Arch Masons, Sybille Chapter #19 at Wheatland and the Korein Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Rawlins, Wyo. He was also a 41-year member of the Elks Lodge #1797 at Lusk and a life member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Mr. Thompson was active in the Democratic Party in Wyoming and served as the Mayor of Fort Laramie for a number of years. At the time of his death, Mr. Thompson was serving on the Wyoming Municipal Powers Agency Board of Directors and the town council of Fort Laramie.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia, Fort Laramie; daughter, Sandra Sommers, Glendo; brother, Grover Thompson Jr., Glendo; three stepdaughters, Charlotte Weatheread and family, Dallas, Texas; Dorothy Rails and family, Fort Laramie; Bertha Pacheco, Wheatland; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His parents and two brothers, Otto and Lloyd, preceded in death.

The casket will be closed. The Colyer Funeral Home at Torrington was in charge of arrangements.
