Ruth Harris, daughter of Dave Garton and Ella (Rhay) Harris was born 3 1/2 miles from McFall in Gentry County, Mo., April 30, 1890. Her father was a pharmacist and owned a drugstore which he operated until he lost his eyesight. After his death Mrs. Harris and family moved to Wyoming and settled north of Lusk on Lance Creek. In this family were two sons and two daughters. One daughter remained in Missouri. Ruth and her two brothers, George and Ray, and their mother ranched for a number of years.

For 47 years Mrs. Walker taught school in Kansas, Colorado, South Dakota, and a number of schools in Niobrara County. She received her degree at Black Hills State College in Spearfish.

In 1924 she married Delbert Walker of the Lusk area at Hot Springs, S. Dak. They continued to ranch but later moved to Lusk.

They were the parents of one son, Loren R. Walker. He and his wife, the former Marjorie Larson, are the parents of one son, Dale Walker.

Delbert Walker died in Lusk in 1937. Mrs. Walker maintained her home in Lusk although she was away some of the time while teaching.

Mrs. Walker was a good neighbor giving generously of her time in caring for graves of those whose relatives were no longer living, and taking people who had no transportation to doctors in other towns. After retirement she tutored children who needed a little extra help with school work.

Through the years she enjoyed gathering rocks and made a thorough study of them. She was a stamp collector and continued with this hobby until she became too ill. She was an avid reader and had a large number of books.

After her son and family moved to their present home, she spent a good deal of her time there and had her friends to come and spend time in a home that was furnished for her near the ranch home.
