Wilbur F. Wright

Memorial services for Lost Springs resident Wilbur F. Wright, 96, were conducted at 2 p.m. on Nov. 22, at the Lusk Congregational UCC Church. Officiating was Rev. Juanita Gillies and Pastor Delbert Dick. At his request cremation took place and inurnment was in the Lusk Cemetery. Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Wright died on Nov. 15, after a lengthy illness, at Michael Manor in Douglas where he had been a resident for a short time.

Wright was born April 26, 1908 in Creighton, Nebr. the son of George Watt and Margaret Anders Wright. Wilbur's parents took a homestead one mile east of Lost Springs in 1908.

He graduated from the Lost Springs High School in 1927 and the Hemphill Diesel Engineers School of Los Angeles, Calif. in 1935.

On June 2, 1939, in Billings, Mont., he married Ada Niehaus of Powell. They were the parents of a son and a daughter. They continued to make their home at Lost Springs with Wilbur working in the early years on construction, as a mechanic, oil fields and numerous jobs until the death of his stepfather Wallace Ball when he took over the farming and ranching fulltime.

Wilbur was known for his work ethic, sense of humor and dedication to family and friends. He was a skilled mechanic and welder and always had time to help his neighbors. All will sadly miss him.

He was a long time member of the American Missionary Fellowship and had served several terms on the Lost Springs and Shawnee School Board.

Survivors include his wife of Lost Springs, son Dale Wright and wife Joan of Douglas, grandchildren Anita Witten and husband Jim of Casper and Todd Wright and wife Jeannie of Douglas, great grandchildren Austin and Weston Wright of Torrington/Douglas, and Aeriel Bright of Douglas, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather and infant daughter Zadah Ann who passed away March 27, 1950 at the age of 22 months. Also preceding him was his stepsister Margaret Ball Rippie and sister Margaret Dorothy Walsh.

Memorials may be made to American Fellowship, Niobrara Senior Center or the Lusk Congregational Church Scholarship Fund.
