Frank E. Demmer Dies Saturday

Frank E. Demmer, 73, a resident of Niobrara County for 40 years, died at his home in Lusk early Saturday morning of cancer.
Funeral services were held at the Peet Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Wm. Bornemann of Torrington officiating. A quartet composed of Mrs. Henry Hytrek, Mrs. Dean Glandt, Walther Doctor and Robert Huey sang "Asleep in Jesus" and "I'm But a Stranger Here." Mrs. J. P. Watson was organist. Pallbearers were: Martin Glandt, Leo Hines, Wm. Ladwig, Sr., Leonard Heine, James Ringer, Sr. and Chas Humphrey. Burial was in the Lusk Cemetery.
Frank E. Demmer, the son of John and Amelia Demmer, was born October 10, 1887 at Lutes, Nebr. He attended school at Burton, Nebr. and college at Fremont, Nebr. In his youth he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. When he was 21, he homesteaded near Wewela, S. Dak. He married Edith Kittleman at Rushville, Nebr. August 5, 1914. and they were the parents of three children.
Mr. and Mrs. Demmer ranched near Colome, So. Dak. and operated a meat market at Antioch, Nebr. before moving to Keeline. They operated the telephone exchange in Keeline for 20 years and the grocery store for six years. In 1946 they moved to a farm near Manville living there until 1960 when they moved to Lusk. During the years at Keeline and Manville, Mr. Demmer also served as Justice of the Peace. He was very active in the work of the Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday School superintendent, teacher and elder.
Survivors include his wife, Edith, two daughters, Mrs. Vera Bredthauer of Lusk and Mrs. Bertha Hansen of Thermopolis; a son, John of Pickstown, So. Dak.; four sisters, Mrs. Clara Trescott of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Anna Soles of Hot Springs, Mrs. Bertha Bahr of Gregory, So. Dak., and Mrs. Eletta Peterson of Poulsbo, Wash.; two brothers, Oscar J. of Montrose, Colo., and Otto O. of Hastings, Nebr. and seven grandchildren.
