Darrell Bishop Dies Of Heart Attack Sun

Darrell Bishop, 52, former resident of Lusk, died of a heart attack at Rapid City Sunday evening. The funeral will be held in Valentine, Nebr. Arrangements for the services were not complete by The Herald press time Wednesday.

Darrell Madison Bishop, son of Warner T. and Emily Amanda Bishop, was born near Valentine, Nebr., November 20, 1901. He attended the public schools in Valentine, Nebr., and grew to manhood there.

During his early life he owned and operated several dry cleaning establishments in Valentine. On May 4, 1927, he was married to Marie L. Whitstone. Shortly thereafter, they moved from Nebraska and spent the next 13 years living in Wyoming and South Dakota. They had made their home here in Lusk for several years. He was the youngest brother of the late Maynard Bishop, who had for many years prior to his death resided in Lusk.

For the past seven and a half years, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Bishop had made their home in California, where Darrell became affiliated with the Community Congregational Church of San Ysidro, Calif., and a member of the Lion's club of that city. He also was a member of the Elks lodge of Deadwood, So. Dak.

Darrell and Marie had no children, but Violet Berg, formerly of Lusk, has made her home with them for a number of years and is endeared to them as a devoted daughter.

After an illness of two months, Darrell passed away rather suddenly on Sunday, February 28, 1954, while visiting relatives in Rapid City, So. Dak. He had attained the age of 52 years, three months and eight days.

He leaves to mourn his untimely death his wife, Marie, two brothers, Mont S. and Merritt of Valentine, Nebr., a sister Mrs. Blanche Rodriquez of New York, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Bessie Bishop and niece Miss Leta Bishop of Lusk, Wyo.; and two nieces, Hope and Joy of Long Beach, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, his eldest brother, Maynard Bishop, and a sister, Dossie, who passed away as a child.

Darrell's life was filled with love and patience and regard for his fellow man. He had many friends who will greatly miss him.

Last rites were held at 3:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon, March 6th in Valentine, Nebr., in the Presbyterian church of that city, with Rev. Newland officiating. Interment was made in the cemetery at Valentine.

Funeral Services Held For Darrel M. Bishop

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at three o'clock for Darrell M. Bishop, 52, former resident of Lusk, who died of a heart attack Sunday, Feb. 28, at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Mildred Brown of Rapid City.

Rev. Newland of Chadron conducted the rites at the Presbyterian Church in Valentine, Neb. and interment was made in the Valentine Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Marie; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Rodriquez of New York; and two brothers, Mont and Merritt, both of Valentine. Mrs. Bessie Bishop of Lusk is a sister-in-law.

Those from Lusk attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Barney Miller, Mrs. Bessie Bishop, Miss Leta Bishop and the Mesdames Ralph Berg, Wayne Tollman and Bud Payne.
