Harris Tallman Dies From Head-On Crash

Harris D. Tallman, 91, died in the Spencer Hospital Wednesday night as a result of injuries received about 5:00 that afternoon when the car in which he was riding collided with another about a mile south of the monument southeast of Lusk on the county road.

Mr. Tallman was riding in a car driven by his son, Harry, and also occupied by his wife, another son, Erwin, and a brother, Darius.

The other car was driven by Larry Anderson, 16, who was traveling south. With him was Miss Joie Hatley.

Mr. Tallman suffered a broken right leg, broken right hand, and severe shock. None of the others were seriously injured. Mrs. Tallman received a knee injury and Miss Hatley facial cuts and bruises.

According to Sheriff Ben Brown, who investigated the accident, both cars were traveling quite near the center of the road as they met at the top of a knoll. It is a road where there is only one main track.

Funeral services were held from the Peet Mortuary at 2:30 Saturday afternoon, with the Rev, Jacob Nein, Congregational pastor, in charge. Casket bearers were George Gibson, H. J. Templeton, C. E. Marvin, Fred Bryant, Albert Olinger, and Merlin Barnes. Mrs. A. F. DeCastro and Mrs. Emerson Bonner provded the music with Mrs. J.P. Watson as organist.

Harris D. Tallman was born in Davenport, Ia., Dec. 29, 1859. On March 5, 1910 he married Laura Jones Owens to whom were born four children: Mrs. John Currie, Laramie; Harry and Erwin at home, and a son, Charles, who died in 1943. Mr. Tallman also reared one step-daughter, Mrs. Winifred Thomas, Cheyenne.

Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. C. 0. Freeman at Neligh, Nebr.; and four brothers, E. E. Tallman, Guthrie, Okla.; J.J. Tallman, Pata Alta, Calif.p Walter of Lusk; and Darius, who has made his home with the Harris Tallman family since 1912. There are six grandchildren.

Mr. Tallman had been a farmer in five different states and had been a resident of Wyoming for 25 years.
