last Rites Held For George Meng

George Meng, 89, died at Good Smaritan Village in Alliance following a lengthy illness. He had lived in Alliance since 1966.

Funeral service was held April 19 at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church at Montrose. Burial was in the Montrose Cemetery with grandsons being pallbearers. Father John Dennett officiated. Rosary was held Tuesday evening at 7:30 at the Bates-Landa Funeral Home in Alliance.

Mr. Meng's parents moved to Montrose in 1886 when he was three and took up homesteading on the Hat Creek just north of the present church. It was in this same church that he made his first communion, confirmation, and in 1907 was married to Johanna Mader of that parish.

Survivors include four daughters, Christene Kruse, Alliance, Mrs. Jow Noziska of Ravenna, Neb., Mrs. Alvin Hovet, Acadia, Neb., and Mrs. Walter Stratman of Stratton, Neb.; two sons, Albert of rural Sioux County and Frederick of Alliance; and one sister, Ellen Raben of Crawford. There are 32 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.
