Grandma Prelle Passes Away at Hat Creek Home
Mrs. Caroline Prelle passed away at her home near Hat Creek on the eve of January 30th, at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 26 days. Her son Walter, with whom she made her home, was in town on business and returned home that evening to find that the Grim Reaper had preceded him. It is presumed that a stroke of paralysis caused her death.
Services by Rev. Farrar, assisted by the Fairview Sunday school, were held in Lusk at the Baptist church on Sunday afternoon.
The musical services were rendered by a choir from the Fairview Sunday school, which Mrs. Prelle often attended.
The remains were shipped to Bassett, Neb., to be interred beside her husband.
Carolina Sohns was born in Hanover, Germany, Nov. 4, 1853. In early infancy she was baptized into the German Lutheran faith and remained faithful to the time of death.
In 1873 she was married to Christian Prelle. To this union 13 children were born, seven of whom still survive.
In 1883 Mr. and Mrs. Prelle came to America, settling at Wisner, Neb. One year later they homesteaded near Bassett, Neb. There her husband died in February of 1915, and in 1917 Mrs. Prelle came to Lusk and again homesteaded near Hat Creek, where she has since resided with her son, Walter.
She leaves to mourn her passing five sons - Frederick, Herman and William Prelle of Steamboat, Colo., and Walter and Christ Prelle of Hat Creek; two daughters, Mrs. Marie Titz of Bassett, Neb., and Mrs. Minnie Harmon of Long Pine, Neb.; one sister, Miss Louis Sohn of Hanover, Germany, and 14 grandchildren.
