Johnnie F. Johnson, 85, of Hampstead died at home Thursday, May 22. Per his wishes there will be no memorial service. His body will be cremated with the ashes interred in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. June 10 at 3 pm.
Born Nov. 23, 1922 in Long Pine, Nebr., he was the son of the late Frank Hjalmar Johnson and Florence Mabel Davis Johnson. He was the husband of Carolyn Marguerite Puckett.He was the eldest of four children.In 1928 his family moved to find work in the oil fields of Wyoming. After graduating from high school in 1940 he joined the Wyoming National Guard, which was called into service in September of that year. He was sent to Europe to help with the World War II effort and stayed two and a half years.
At the conclusion of the war he decided on a career in military service. He served in the Army National Guard from July 1940 to September 1940; in the Army from September 1940 through December 1945; and the Air Force from December 1945 through November 1961, retiring as a master sergeant with more than 21 years of service.
He was an assistant district manager for the Social Security Administration, where he had worked for 20 years.He had many interests, including photography, and stained glass and furniture making. He was a woodworker and also created many copper garden fixtures.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are brothers Walter Ernest Johnson of Newcastle, Wyo., and Carl Otto Johnson of Crawford, Fla; and a sister Doris Mae Johnson Rogers of Gillette, Wyo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 269 Alexandria, Va 22313; or the Humane Society of Carroll County, 2517 Littlestown Pike, Westminster, Md. 21157.
