Julia Katherine Spaulding

Julia Katherine Spaulding passed away at the Niobrara Health & Life Center in Lusk, WY at the age of 86 on July 14, 2008. She had resided there for the past 3 years, receiving the most wonderful care.

Julia was born on January 21, 1922 in Casper, WY to Frederick Thomas McKee and Myrtle King McKee. Her parents moved to the Casper area from St Joseph MO after purchasing a homestead in the Goose Egg area.

For a short time, her family lived in Midwest, WY in the Standard Oil Company housing. Julia believed the oil derrick in their backyard was hers. She also thought the snow fences were there to keep the sage chickens off the road. Hence, her great imagination created lots of laughs for her family. Julia's family returned to Casper so that she and her 2 sisters could finish their schooling. In the 6th grade, she was very proud that she was the "Jacks" Champion at Park Elementary School. Her love of sports continued with her the rest of her life. When her children took swimming lessons, she signed up for adult lessons to be with her children.

In 1939, Julia graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper, WY. She married James Rodney Spaulding on December 5, 1941 in Casper.

Julia led a very successful career with the United States Postal Service from 1962 till her retirement in 1982. She served as the Postmaster in Evansville, traveled the state of Wyoming, fulfilling the duties of the Postal System Examiner and Supervisor of Finance and Administration at the Casper, WY Post Office.

While working for the Post Office and after retirement, she was active in several Postmaster Organizations. Julia was also an active member of the American Business Women's Association and served as the president of the Palomino chapter in Casper. She also enjoyed her membership in the Order of Eastern Star, Ft. Casper Chapter.

She was a friend to all, especially to her children and grandchildren. Julia was adored by her children and her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her beautiful cloverleaf rolls and the best pecan pie ever. She was always eager to play games with her grandchildren. Playing bridge with her friends when she was younger, dancing, watching old movies and sitcoms were some of the other things she enjoyed.

Her loving nature will be missed by all!

She is survived by her sister, Ella McGuirk of Casper, her 5 children, Jim & Patti Spaulding of Evansville, Judy Spaulding Gerard & Bob Gerard of Ft. Collins, CO, Janice Spaulding Zysk & Edwin Zysk of Belfast ME, John Spaulding of Casper and Jeanine Spaulding Larson of Lusk. She was the proud grandmother of Heather Gerard and Brittney Gerard Lupton of Colorado; Becky Spaulding Cobb, Rob Spaulding and Colter Larson of Wyoming; and three great-grandchildren.

Julia was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister, Mary Louise Cronin.

Per Julia's wishes there will not be any funeral services. Her children will gather to celebrate her life at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations on behalf of Julia's honor to either:
