Former Resident Of Node Dies
Mrs. Amanda Humphrey, 78, a former resident of the Node community, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tom DeWitt of Douglas, May 31 at 10:45 p.m. following an extended illness.
Funeral services were held at Stark's Mortuary at 2:30 o'clock Sunday, June 3, with the Rev. Glen Burris officiating. Burial was made in the Douglas Park cemetery. Pallbearers were Fred Graves, Marcus Graves, Fred Wiekware, Pete Curtin, Al Vandeventer and Jim Fackler.
Amanda McCracken was born Feb. 18, 1873 in Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Laura McCracken. As a young girl, she moved with her parents to Springview, Nebr. in a covered wagon. In 1880 she was married to Judson J. Humphrey. They were the parents of ten children.
Mr. and Mrs. Humphrey and family moved to Wyoming in 1920. Mr. Humphrey died May 11, 1925 after which Mrs. Humphrey lived at Node for five years.
In 1930 she homesteaded near La Bonte Canyon at the head of Cottonwood Creek, near Marshall, Wyo. She was preceded in death by a son, Lewis A. Humphrey, who died July 10, 1946.
Survivors include four sons, Pat, Madras, Ore.; Charlie, Lusk; Oliver, Moses Lake, Wash.; Chester, Douglas; five daughters, Nellie Bills, Portland, Ore.; Elsie Paisley, Lusk; Louise Hegmire, Caldwell, Ia.; Enie DeWitt and Fern Curtin (Curtis), Douglas; a brother, Dick McCracken, Springview, Nebr.; two sisters, Martha Mankin and Nannie Townsend both of Eureka, Calif.; 31 grandchildren.
