John Peterson, 71, Dies Here Friday

Note: This is entered exactly as the obituary was printed. However, relatives spell the last name "Petersen", which is what is on the gravestone.

John Peterson, 71, died at the Spencer Hospital Friday after having been admitted the previous week. Mr and Mrs. Peterson moved from Lusk to Torrington about a year ago, where Mrs. Peterson is conducting a convalescent home.

John Peterson was born in Claud County, Kan., Aug 26, 1880 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Wm. Peterson. While still a small boy they moved to Neligh, Nebr., and he grew to manhood here. June 2, 1912, he was married to Ida May Kelly at Auburn, Nebr., and they are the parents of 11 children.

Approximately 30 years ago they came to Wyoming and have lived in this vicinity until moving to Torrington last year. During World War I he served with the "Home Guard" at Peru, Nebr.

Mr. Peterson was a member of the First Baptist church of Lusk and funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel on Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock by Rev. Frank Schweissing.

Mrs. Emerson Bonner and Mrs. A. F. DeCastro were the singers accompanied by Mrs. J. P. Watson.

The casketbearers were Sam Blaney, James McGinnis, Jack Gartrell, Jake Wahl, Glenn Riley and John Irons. Interment was made in the Lusk cemetery.

Survivors besides his wife Ida are six daughters; Mrs. Maybelle Caster, Santa Anita, Calif., Mrs. Margaret Garhart, Lance Creek; Mrs. Hannah Wintermote, Yoder; Mrs. Laura Marie Scott, East Bend, N.C.; Mrs. Dorothy McCullough and Mrs. Stella Murphy, both of Lusk; and five sons; James W. of Lusk; Howard M., Torrington; Richard L., Stevenson, Wash.; John, Jr., Edgemont, S. Dak.; and a step-son, Lester Hampton of Crawford, Nebr.; Four sisters, Mrs. Louise Daniels and Mrs. Margaret Hill of Fall City, Nebr.; Mrs. Hannah Rhodes, Auburn, Nebr.; and Mrs. Jennie Perriet, Peru, Nebr.
