Milburn Grandchild Dies of Polio

Word was received here by relatives last Thursday, October 3, that Elvira Milburn, 5-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Milburn, had died at Hubbard, Oregon, from an attack of Polio.

A telegram the week before stated that the little girl was seriously ill from the dread disease and that her older brother, Richard, was also in a critical condition from a ruptured appendix.

Later reports state that the boy is recovering.

The little girl was buried at Hubbard, where the family moved early in the summer from Lusk.

Surviving her are the parents and a sister, Rosabelle, and three brothers, Richard, Stanley and Elvin, all of the family home. The grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Milburn, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Knittle, all reside in Lusk.

Two Children of the Henry Milburns Die

The second time within the month death struck in the Henry Milburn home, with the death of their 11-year-old son, Richard, who passed away Monday, October 28.

The family left Lusk last summer and moved to Hubbard, Oregon, where two of their children were taken seriously ill the latter part of September. Their 5-year-old daughter, Elvira, ("Elvera" according to the Oregon Death Index), died on October 3, from polio and the boy passed away a little more than three weeks later.

He had been a patient in a hospital at that place for about four weeks, having undergone an operation for ruptured appendix and a bowel obstruction.

Richard, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Milburn, was born in Lusk, where he attended grade school. His teachers speak of him as a very loveable child.

Besides his parents the boy is survived by a sister, Rosabelle, and two brothers, Stanley and Elvin, all of Hubbard, Ore., and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Knittle and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Milburn of Lusk.

Funeral services will be held in Hubbard today (Thursday) and he will be laid beside his little sister.
