Layton Scott Smutz

Word has been received by friends in Harrison of the death of a former teacher and Superintendent of Sioux County High School. Layton S. Smutz passed away in Laguna Hills, California, on December 12, 1993, two days before his 90th birthday.
Mr. Smutz and his wife Francis, came to Harrison in 1937 and he served as Superintendent from that time until 1948.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, Verne and Dean.
Note: This article is entered as printed in the newspaper. However, the Social Security Index and the California Death Index both state the death date as January 14, 1994. This also would have been "two days before his 90th birthday."
