Crawford Boy Killed In Northeast Sioux Truck Crash Friday
A 12-year-old Crawford boy was killed instantly at 12:30 p.m. Friday when the truck in which he was riding overturned 22 miles north of Crawford on State Highway No. 2 in northeast Sioux County.
State Trooper Mike Frerichs identified the youth as Dennis H. Sterling, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis M. Sterling of Crawford.
Frerichs said the boy was riding a truck driven by his father, who is listed in good condition at a Crawford hospital from injuries he received in the accident.
Sterling told Frerichs he took his eyes off the road mementarily while rounding a curve. The truck went out of control and rolled over 1 1/2 times, Frerichs said.
The boy was thrown from the truck, Frerichs said and was pinned beneath the vehicle when it came to rest.
Sterling is being treated for a sprained neck, mutiple contusions and abrasions and two cracked ribs. Frerichs said the truck was demolished.
