Frances Dooley-Baker

Services for Frances Dooley-Baker were held Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Pier Funeral Home in Lusk at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Matt Fox officiating. She passed away April 29 in Torrington after a long struggle with cancer.

Frances was born May 20, 1932 in Belle Fourche, S.D. to Al and Amelia Sloan. At the age of seven she contracted polio and spent considerable time at the polio hospital in Hot Springs, S.D. After graduating from Belle Fourche High School she married Don Dooley. They lived in South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. In 1974 they moved to Lance Creek where Don worked for Updike Brothers Well Service and Frances worked for Kant Oil Field Service as a bookkeeper.

After Don was killed in a motorcycle accident in 1984, she moved to Lusk where she married Jim Baker.

While she was a devoted homemaker and mother, she held jobs such as radio disk jockey, newspaper reporter and office manager for an animal shelter. She had a deep love and concern for the welfare of animals. She also enjoyed her many friends in the area.

She is survived by her husband Jim, two sons Patrick and Joshua of Casper, and a granddaughter Dena and her children, also of Casper. She was preceded in death by her first husband Don and her daughter Dona Shawn Showers.

Memorials may be made to the Niobrara Senior Center, PO Box 928, Lusk, WY 82225.

Pier Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
