H.C. Buffington, Vet of Civil War Dies On Sunday

Information courtesy of the Wyoming Newspaper Project. The following was published in the Lusk Free Lance.

Henry C. Buffington, last of the survivors of the Civil war in this vicinity, passed away at his home in Lost Springs last Sunday, June 18th. He was almost 85 years of age, according to information received here. Mr. Buffington had been totally invalided for a number of years and his passing came as a relief to much suffering.

He was accorded military honors in the burial services, which were held under direction of the American Legion posts of Douglas and Keeline, and his remains were interred beside those of is wife, in the Prairie View cemetery at Lost Springs. She preceded him in death almost ten years.

Mr. Buffington was but a young lad when he enlisted in the Wisconsin Infantry in 1864, and during that great conflict he participated in a great many of its severest battles. He was stationed at points in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana while in the service.

Deceased is survived by two sons, Elmer and Clarence Buffington, and one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Merrill, all of Lost Springs.
