Information courtesy of the Wyoming Newspaper Project. The following was published in The Lusk Free Lance.

Eli Marsh, former resident of Niobrara county, and grandfather of Richard Marsh of this city, passed away at the home of his son, Robert, at Wellington, Colo., at 7:05 o'clock Wednesday evening, September 20th, succumbing to an affliction of the heart, combined with advanced age. He had been seriously ill for the past week. Mr. Marsh was 84 years, 11 months and 3 days of age at the time of demise.

The remains will be brought to this city and placed in charge of the Midwest mortuary. Funeral services will be held from the First Baptist church Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. B. F. Farrar, pastor, officiating. Interment will be made in the Lusk cemetery.

Mr. Marsh was a native of Illinois, having been born in East St. Louis on October 18, 1848. His early life was spent in that vicinity and he became a railroad worker as he grew into manhood. This line of endeavor he followed for many years.

In 1876 he was united in marriage to Miss Lottie Maloney, at Gilman, Ill., and to this union five sons were born, two of whom, Robert and James Edward, along with the widow, survive.

In 1882 Mr. Marsh moved with his family to Newell, Ia., where he farmed for one year. They then relocated at Bridgewater, S. Dak, engaging in farming there for five years. In 1888 the family moved back east, locating near Sioux City, Ia., where they made their home until 1918, when they came to Wyoming, locating on a homestead 35 miles north of Lusk. They remained there until in 1927 when the parents and son, Robert went to Salt Creek, the latter being employed as an oil well driller. Two years later they removed to Wellington, Colo., where a new oil field was being developed, and since that time have resided there with the son, Robert.

Mr. Marsh was well known to many persons in the vicinity of his homestead and also in this city, all of whom will deeply regret to learn of his death.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Marsh were called from here Tuesday noon, and arrived in Wellington some little time before death had claimed the elder Mr. Marsh. The widow and two sons were at his bedside when the end came.
