Hope Montague Baca, Former Lusk Resident, Dies at Boise, Idaho

Word of the death of Mrs. Hope Montague Baca has been recieved by friends here but details are very meager.

She is the wife of Horace Baca and died at Boise, Ia. Monday, Mar. 23, from the effects of a paralytic stroke.

Mrs. Baca is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Demmon, pioneers in this part of the country. She is a native of Lusk and lived here until several years ago, when she and Mr. Baca moved to Colorado for a time and then with the Korean War her son, Francis Montague, was called back into the service and the Bacas went to live at the Montague home in Boise, Ida. and care for their granddaughter, as it is understood that Mrs. Montague is also in the service.

Hope Demmon was married as a young girl to Francis Montague and they were the parents of a son, Francis, and a daughter, Kathrine. Her husband died many years ago and is buried in the Lusk cemetery.

Later she was married to Horace Baca of Lusk, who with her son and daughter survive her. She is a sister-in-law of Alfred and Edward Baca of Lusk.

Funeral services will be held in Boise but the time has not been set awaiting word from Francis Montague who is on a ship somewhere in Japan waters.

Mrs. Baca was a member of the Lusk Rebekah Lodge NO. 12 and a member of the Past Noble Grand Club. She was also a member of the Niobrara Chapter No. 26, Order of the Eastern Star.

Learn Further Details Concerning Baca Death

The Herald is in receipt of a letter from Horace Baca with the first direct word received here in regard to Mrs. Baca's death. She died in Boise, Idaho, March 23, and was buried there.

The Herald reporter had understood that both Mrs. Baca's son, Francis T. Montague and his wife, were in the service, but Mr. Baca states that only the son is in the Navy and his wife and two children live in San Diego, which is the home base for the ship on which Mr. Montague is stationed.

A granddaughter who has lived with Mr. and Mrs. Baca, Joan Harmon, is the daughter of Mrs. Baca's daughter, Kathryn.

Hope Demmon is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Demmon, who came to Cheyenne in 1868 and then settled in Silver Springs, 9 miles south of Lusk, in 1876.

Survivors besides her husband and son and daughter are four brothers, Evan Demmon of Effingham, Kan., Homer P. Demmon of South Pasadena, Calif., Alvin G. Demmon, St. Cloud, Florida, and Burt Demmon, Washington, D.C.and one sister, Mrs. Pearl Gaylord, Merriman, Neb.
