Services for Ann Scott Boner, 70, will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Congregational United Church of Christ in Douglas, Wyo. Interment will be in the Douglas Park Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon.
Carol Ann Scott was born in Douglas, Wyo. on July 24, 1938, one of four children born to Earl W. and Harriet E. (Froggatt) Scott. She was baptized in the Congregational Church in Douglas on May 7, 1939 by Reverend Louis Gale.
She was so happy at the age of five to be named Crown Bearer for the High School Prom Queen. However, she came down with the measles and her friend, Sharon Ballard assumed the honor. Ann was active in Sunday school classes during her early years and pilgrim fellowship through high school.
At approximately eight years of age, she asked her dad, Earl W. Scott, if they could have a meeting. During "the meeting" Ann proposed Earl hire her at the Morton Ranch. Her dad, quite seriously, asked what she was qualified to do. Now, at that time, Morton's hired approximately 27 men in the summer and 17 during the winter months. Ann suggested she clean the bunkhouse on Saturday mornings. Earl leaned back in his office chair and responded, "Ann, your mother will not go along with that idea. Can you think of anything else?" Ann pondered the question and suggested she paint the inside of the outdoor privies and the yard gates at the Lower Ranch. Her dad asked what she felt was a fair wage to do so. Ann hesitantly replied, "Twenty-five cents for each." Earl leaned forward and said, "Done." Some of Ann's fondest memories were strolling through and climbing trees in the new and old apple orchards at the Lower Ranch.
Ann loved high school and her dear friends. Sixth grade through high school she rooted for and served as a cheerleader for the Douglas Bearcats.
In the fall of 1958, Ann met Bob Boner, her brother, Butch's, roommate, at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. They were married June 13, 1959. For fifty years Bob was her best friend, helpmate and her Cowboy. To this union three sons were born: Brad, Rob and Jeff. Each son received his degree at UW in Agriculture Business and returned to the family ranch. They continue today in management and ownership capacities. Ann and Bob felt so blessed to have all ten of their grandchildren in or near Converse County. Ann loved each dearly and urges them forward with their future endeavors.
Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Being a gracious hostess was her forte'. She always welcomed family and friends in her home. She was very giving. Her family, community, and church benefited greatly from her generosity. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities, vacationing in the Black Hills, and spending Januarys in Fountain Hills, Arizona.
She was predeceased by her parents and two sisters, Judy Scott Lowham and Nancy Scott Falkenburg. She is survived by her beloved husband, Bob; sons Brad and wife Laurie, grandchildren Braden, Meghan and Ryan; Rob and wife Anne Marie, grandchildren Brian, Tyler, Michelle, and Laura; Jeff and wife Tracy, grandchildren Scott, Trent, and Garrett. Also surviving are brother, Earl D. "Butch" Scott and wife Valora and numerous nieces, nephews and beloved cousins.
A memorial to benefit the Congregational United Church of Christ building fund, P.O. Box 122, Douglas, Wyoming 82633 would be appreciated by the family.
Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Braden Boner, Ryan Boner, Brian Boner, Tyler Boner, Scott Boner, Trent Boner, and Garrett Boner.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters, Meghan Boner, Michelle Boner, and Laura Boner.
