Ellen Mae Smith Hiatt

Ellen Hiatt died June 6, 2009 at Hospice and Palliatric Care in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Ellen was born in Keeline, Wyo. on Feb. 15, 1918. She lived north of Lusk, Wyo. for many years.

When Ellen was ten years old, she got on a horse, bareback, with a pitchfork, and separated two bulls that were fighting through a fence.

Ellen worked in all of the offices in the Niobrara County Courthouse. She volunteered to join the Army in 1944. She worked in the Pentagon on Japanese military intelligence.

Ellen married James Hiatt in Washington, D.C., on May 25, 1946. She lived in various towns and cities in Colorado, California and Wyoming.

Ellen loved to work in her garden. Her roses at her home are elegant.

Daughter Sharon married Stan Cotes, and lives in Pocatello, Idaho. Daughter Carolyn married Jim Amos, and lives in Denver, Colo. Husband Jim Hiatt lives in Battlement Mesa, Colo.
