They were working together in Topeka, Kansas at the time of her passing on August 10th 2009 in Kansas City, Kansas after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Jan's family was her joy, and she will be greatly missed by all of them. She was able to realize a dream of taking them all to Hawaii for Christmas of 2008.
