Mabel Zerbe dies

Mabel Florence Zerbe, long-time Niobraran, died in Casper Dec. 31, and funeral service was held here Tuesday afternoon at Peet Mortuary Chapel.

Mrs. Zerbe, a graduate of the Western Bible Institute of Denver, Colo., was one of the original organizers of the Congregational Church of Van Tassell of which she was a lifetime member. During World War II she spent four years at Hill Field in Provo, Utah, doing war work. She sang at many entertainments and funerals down through the years.

Mrs. Zerbe was born in Canada Jan. 15, 1890, and moved to South Dakota as a small child with her family. After attending school in South Dakota she went to Harrison, Neb., where she was employed as a beauty operator. There she met Harvey Zerbe and they were married in Harrison May 3, 1909.

The couple lived on a homestead south of Harrison where their son Harlan was born. In 1911 they moved to Van Tassell where they operated a hardware store for many years. Mr. Zerbe died in September of 1975.

The Rev. Frank Bozart presided over the funeral service. Mrs. Edna DeCastro was organist. Mark Lohr sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Casket bearers were John Hammond, Rex Shoults, Ted Lohr, Warren Robertson, Van Hank and Hugh McLean. Burial was in the Van Tassell cemetery.
