Margaret Irene Ruffing

Margaret Irene Ruffing, age 95, formerly of Hyattville, Wyo., passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at Washakie Medical Center in Worland, Wyo.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Hyattville Cemetery. All are welcome.

On July 9, 1914, Irene was born at Keeline, Niobrara County, Wyo. to Lewis Clyde and Luvena Elizabeth (Barr) Burkholder. She received her schooling at Lusk, Wyo.

Irene met and on July 12, 1931 married Charles Edward Ruffing in Hot Springs, S.D. They came to Worland, Wyo. in 1935. The growing family moved to Hyattville in 1941. Irene raised her young family on a ranch where she became a very good gardener, farmer and cook as she helped raise most of the food that they ate. In 1950 the family moved to Basin so that her children could go to high school. They moved back to Hyattville in 1959. After Charles' death in 1988 Irene moved to Worland where she remained until her death.

Irene enjoyed cooking and was a cook for many of her son's fishing and hunting camps, the Manderson High School, the Manderson Café, the Hyattville Café that she and Charles owned for 14 years, and for her family of 8 and guests. She was well known locally for her wonderful cinnamon rolls and home made pies.

Irene was very family-oriented, and it showed through the love she gave her children and her grandchildren. She had a special place in the hearts of many family friends also.

Irene was a member of the United Methodist Church at Hyattville.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, 8 siblings, and her husband, Charles.

Irene is survived by her children, Charles Ruffing and wife, Dayle of Nampa, Idaho, Norman Ruffing of Tananger, Norway, Jim Ruffing and wife, Bonnie of Worland, Wyo., Bill Ruffing of Orlando, Fla., Kay Olson and husband, Stan of Worland, Wyo., and Sherry Brewster and husband, Tom of Ten Sleep, Wyo.; two brothers, Richard Burkholder and wife, Janice of Olympia, Washington and Neal Burkholder and wife, Sybil of Calgary Alberta Canada; her sister, Thelma Miceli of Fresno, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.
