Betty Lou Sakal-Stoker

Betty Lou Sakala-Stoker, born to Esther and James Faubion on March 9, 1937 and chosen by Frank and Helen Guide at age 11, passed away July 10, 2010 at her home in Lusk, Wyo.

She is survived by her children Vivian Fahy (husband John) of Manville, Elmer Sakala (wife Elaine) of Hotchkiss, Colo., and Tommy Sakala (wife Jennifer) of Lusk, as well as her sisters Patti Hill of Fruita, Colo. and Ora Burgess of Albuquerque, NM. Betty also has nine grandchildren: Misty, Michael (Laurie), Rebecca (Steve), Michele (Mitch), Jeremy, Anna, Sara, Amber, and Lisha. She had seven great-grandchildren Aaron, Danielle, Jack, Colleen, Skyler, Sophey, and Kesley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and James and Helen and Frank, her sister Viola, and brothers Jimmy and Frankie.

Betty graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1955 and started her family with Elmer Sakala, who also preceded her in death. Although she worked outside of the home, her family always came first. She moved to Wyoming to help her daughter and then moved home in 2000 to care for her ailing mother. She was a well known seamstress and cook, and loved her trips with her sister Patti to the casinos. She was an avid Rockies fan and stayed up late many nights to cheer them on. She was a strong, colorful woman whose light will be missed. Her family knows she will be getting things organized wherever she is.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Pier Funeral Home in Lusk.
