Dolores McBirney, 14, Dies Sunday

Fourteen-year-old Dolores McBirney passed away at the Spencer Hospital, Sunday, Nov. 30, at 5:30 a.m. from the effects of a strangulated hernia, complicated with a kidney infection.

The young girl and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete McBirney, underwent a harrowing experience while trying to get her to the hospital in Lusk on Sunday night, Nov. 23, during the snow storm. The McBirneys reside on a ranch south of Manville and the roads were practically impassable, but with the help of neighbors the trip was undertaken with two cars, as the parents realized their daughter was very ill. It took most of the night to get to Lusk, so the sick girl was in poor condition to undergo the operation which seemed necessary. However, she withstood the surgery well, but the complications proved too great in her weakened condition.

Dolores was born at Las Vegas, Nevada, and later came with her family to Douglas, Wyo., and five years ago the family moved to the ranch south of Manville, where they have since resided.

She was a member of the 8th Grade of the Manville school.

Funeral services were conducted from the Peet Chapel on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 2, at 2:30, with the Rev. Lawrence P. Juell officiating.

The music was furnished by Manville friends, who sang "In the Garden," "Beautiful Garden of Prayer," and "Does Jesus Care?" The choir was composed of Mr. and Mrs. Beryl Fullerton, Geraldine Alexander, Joe Sandoval and Ruth Ladwig, with Emma Richardson as accompanist.

The honorary casket bearers were Eight Grade teacher, Mrs. Beulah Norris, and a group of girls from the class. The active bearers were six boys who were her schoolmates.

Besides her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete McBirney, she is survived by two sisters, Darlene, 17, Dorothy Lou, 9, and two brothers, Eddie J., 5, and John Allen, 2.

Interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery.
