Funeral services for Carrie Broyles Springen, 92, of Wheatland, were Thursday, May 7, 1987 in the Noecker Funeral Home Chapel in Gillette.

Rev. Orlies Shroyer officiated the service. Burial was in the Pigsah Cemetery.

Mrs. Springen died Monday, May 4, 1987 in Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

Mrs. Springen was born April 12, 1895 in Polk County, IA, dear the town of Mitchelville, to Joseph W. and Alice C. (Broyles) Burnett. She lived with her family in Warren County, IA before moving to Labette County, KS in 1907. She received her elementary education in rural schools of all three counties.

On Oct. 17, 1917, she married Eldrige G. Broyles at Oswego, KS. They had four children. The Broyles moved from Kansas to Campbell County in February 1918. They homesteaded 640 acres 32 miles southeast of Gillette.

The couple lived on the ranch until Mr. Broyles died in February 1958. On Feb. 19, 1959, she married Carl J. Springen in Rapid City, SD. They lived on the Springen ranch until June 1971, when they moved to Gillette. Springen died in January 1978.

Mrs. Springen moved to Chugwater in March 1974 and then to Wheatland in September 1980, where she stayed until her death. She was a charter member of the 3H Club of the Lawver Highlite community. She held every office in this organization during her years as a member.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Broyles of Torrington and Warren Broyles of Lusk; two daughters, Edith Mills of Sundance and Nettie Harris of Chugwater; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husbands, Mrs. Springen was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, one grandson, one granddaughter, one great-grandson, one great-granddaughter, one niece and one nephew.

Memorials have been established to the Campbell County Museum or Pioneer Garden Club of Chugwater. Donations may be sent to Noecker Funeral Home, P.O. Box 734, Gillette, which is in charge of the arrangements.

Obituary Corrected

The Carrie Springen obituary appearing in last week's Herald incorrectly identified her mother's maiden name. Mrs. Springen was born April 12, 1895 in Polk County, IA, near the town of Mitchelville, to Joseph W. and Alice C. (Boyles) Burnett.

The Herald regrets the error.

A funeral for Carrie Broyles Springen, 92, a Campbell County homesteader, was held on Thursday, May 7, in the Noecker Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Orlies Shroyer officiated. Burial was at the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Mrs. Springen died Monday, May 4, 1987 in Platte County Memorial Hospital at Wheatland.

Mrs. Springen was born April 12, 1895 in Polk County Iowa, Beaver Township, near the town of Mitchellville, to Joseph W. and Alice C. (Broyles) Burnett. She lived with her family in Warren County, Iowa, before moving to Labette County, Kansas in February of 1907. She received her elementary education in rural schools of all three counties.

On October 17, 1917, she married Eldridge G. Broyles at Oswego, Kansas. Four children were born to the couple. The Broyles moved from Kansas to Campbell County in February of 1918. They proved up on a homestead of 640 acres located 32 miles southeast of Gillette.

The couple continued to make the ranch their home until Broyles died in February of 1958. On February 19, 1959, she married Carl J. Springen at Rapid City, SD. They made their home on the Springen ranch until June of 1971 when they moved to Gillette. Springen died in January, 1978.

Mrs. Springen moved to Chugwater in March of 1974 and then to Wheatland in September, 1980, where she had since lived. She was a past charter member of the 3H Club of the Lawver Highlite community. She held every office of this organization during her years as a member.

She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Gem and Mineral Society of Gillette and a member and vice president of the Pioneer Garden Club of Chugwater.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Broyles of Torrington and Warren Broyles of Lusk; two daughters, Edith Mills of Sundance and Nettie Harris of Chugwater; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
