Henry Chase

It is with regret that we find it necessary to chronicle the death of another of our pioneer citizens. This time the grim reaper has taken from our midst Henry Chase. While Mr. Chase had passed the three score years and ten, the time allotted to man, being 74 years of age, he was in good health up to a few short weeks ago and seemed likely to live for many years. He was stricken with paralysis about three weeks ago and all that money and kind frinds could do was done but to no avail. Most of the time he remained in a semi-conscious condition, passing peacefully away last Friday night. Funeral services were held in the Episcopal church, after which the remains were shipped to his old home at Macon, Illinois, and buried beside that of is wife and child, who preceeded him about 40 years ago. The remains were accompanied by Morris Chase, a brother of the deceased, who was summoned here when it was found that Mr. Chase's illness would prove fatal. His familiar form and bright mind will be greatly missed by his friends, of which he had a host, and "to live in hearts we leave behind, is not to die."
