Lusk Girl Killed as Auto Leaves Highway

A car accident 37 miles south of Lusk last Friday evening claimed the life of Patricia Morehouse, 15, and injured Mrs. Sadie Gladson Roberts, 16, wife of Henry Roberts. The girls were returning to Lusk from Torrington at the time of the accident.

Mrs. Roberts was driving the car, a coupe, which belonged to her husband, and, according to witnesses, was driving at a high rate of speed when she passed another car and appeared to lose control of her car, going over the right hand side of the road, the car rolling over several times. According to reports, Miss Morehouse was thrown from the car as it rolled over, while Mrs. Roberts remained inside.

The accident happened about five o'clock in the afternoon, on Highway 85, a few miles south of the Patrick Fox Farm.

A number of cars stopped within a few minutes and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Barker of Lusk, who were en route to Scottsbluff, drove to Lingle and telephoned Dr. W. E. Reckling to come as soon as possible and bring the ambulance.

Some tourists brought Mrs. Roberts, who appeared to be suffering only from shock and many bruises, on to Lusk and took her to the Spencer Hospital, where she was a patient for several days.

Coroner George Earl Peet with his ambulance and Dr. W. E. Reckling found Miss Morehouse unconscious, but still breathing, and she was rushed to the hospital, where she died about 2:15 a.m., Saturday. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Morehouse of Lusk. Her death was the 13th Wyoming traffic fatality in Wyoming since the first of the year.

The accident happened in Goshen County, so was investigated by Patrolman Park Carmine. The car is said to be almost completely demolished.

FUNERAL HELD HERE MONDAY MORNING
The victim of an auto accident, Patricia Ann Morehouse, 15-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton C. Morehouse of Lusk, died at the Spencer Hospital early Saturday morning, February 23, from a basal head injury.

Patricia Ann was born May 23, 1930, at Burton, Nebraska, and moved to Lusk more than two years ago with her family from their Nebraska home. She had attended Lusk High School and made many friends among the young people.

Funeral services were held from the Peet Chapel on Monday forenoon at 10:00 o'clock, with Rev. Lawrence P. Juell officiating.

The songs "This World is Not My Home" and "The Lord Is My Shepherd" were sung by Georgeanne Gibson, Nyla Sylvester, Justine Watson and Phyllis Owens. Mrs. Gerald Bardo was the accompanist.

Because or the inclemency of the weather, burial was delayed until five o'clock that afternoon, when interment was made in the Lusk Cemetery.

High school boys who conducted the remains to the last resting place were David Lorenzen, Robert Mathews, Charles Miller, Robert Warrick, William Barbee and Donald Pearce.

Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Morehouse; one brother, Clinton Crawford; three sisters, Betty, Sally Lou and Mrs. Gene Lee. One brother, Larry, preceded his sister in death on March 22, 1934.
